need clarity on these info about the promaster

hey so i stumbled upon these information regarding the rv's and it's dated at around 2016. i was just thinking whether this still applies to current gen promasters becuase i got the 2024 promaster with me and tryna expand the setup into a really homey vibe. 😃

first they said that 48v electric systems might be the norm for big systems like houses and cabins but it's not the same for rv's because fuses, breakers, and switches are just made for 12v / 24v not 48v. there's no compatible parts so. then they said that the solar panels shall be able to generate more than 48v to charge a 48v battery, so the setup should be bigger and much more complicated. and then alternators in vehicles don't really charge 48v batteries unless you install a 48v alternator to match. theres also limited converters in the market that reduce 48v power to just 12v for lights and fridges. and the cost is super high compared to 24v or 12v system. lastly there's not much appliance right in the market that will be suitable for 48v so that's a no go.

still the same today? how bout for the 2024 promaster? the same?
 
yeah the info you found still holds up for the most part 48v systems are great for large off-grid setups but in vehicles especially rv conversions 12v and 24v are still the standard most rv appliances lighting and charge controllers are built around those voltages and like you mentioned compatible parts for 48v are limited and more expensive plus most vehicle alternators won't charge a 48v battery without a dc-dc converter and those aren't cheap either for your 2024 promaster sticking with a 12v or 24v setup is the way to go it's simpler easier to maintain and gives you access to way more compatible components if you want to maximize solar efficiency you can use a higher voltage solar array but step it down with an mppt charge controller to feed a 12v or 24v battery bank
 
RVs generally stick to 12v or 24v systems because 48v setups are more complex and expensive, so that's why fuses, breakers, and appliances aren't really made for 48v, and there are fewer converters available. it's easiest to go with 12v or 24v if you're building out your setup, but if you insist you want 48v, you'll need special parts, but it's not worth the hassle unless you really need it.

Yeah, still mostly true today. Most RV appliances are 12V so you're gonna need converters if you have 48V.
 
You make a great point! Using 12v and 24v systems really simplifies things in RV builds. Sure, 48v can be useful in certain situations, but for the majority of setups, the added expense and complexity just aren't worth it.
