Gonna visit the tire shop tomorrow and I just need some quick reassurance... Talked to the guys there over the phone earlier and the tech mentioned theyre gonna lift the rear by jacking under the rear axle instead of the usual jack points in front of the rear wheels. Is that safe?
Is it safe to jack up by the rear axle?

yeah, jacking up directly under the rear axle housing is a pretty standard and safe way to lift the back end. Just make sure the tire shop uses a proper jack and always puts jack stands under the axle tubes once it's lifted. You're all set!

Most tire shops use 4 jacks when rotating or replacing tires and O never have seen them use jack stands.
Not saying that is right, just an observation.
You can certainly do it by working on one side at a time. Make sure YOU use stands after raising it up. If you use under the control arms in front and under the axle in the rear, there will be less jacking since the suspension will not droupe. You only need the tire off the ground about an inch plus you won't have to lift it too high when mounting it.
Or you can watch someone else do it ...

Yessss, lifting by the rear axle is 100 percent safe if you're using the right jack and stands. I do it all the time at home, but hey don't forget to keep everything on level ground.
